The Den play area in Teignmouth is a local attraction that has recently won a green flag award for being one of the most popular open space destinations for resident and tourists visiting Devon and the South West.
The Den offers a variety of attractions for both children and adults alike including the large, award winning refurbished children’s play area, a multi-use games area and an all new adventure golf course facility.
Outdoor Play UK were contacted last year to quote for an overhaul of the children’s play area and were very happy to be awarded the work.
A few months on and we started the installation of the play equipment at the Teignmouth sea front park. The scope of the work was all encompassing and included a range of our own wooden play equipment to be installed and some steel equipment supplied by Kompan a leading play equipment manufacturer.
The play equipment includes a range of sensory and inclusive kit for children aged from two years to 12 years that encourages play and social activity among the children including investigation and some problem solving.
The six-week coastal themed refurbishment of the play area went well and all was completed on time ahead of the opening on July 22nd. After the opening ceremony there were some nice comments from the local councillor.

The outdoor play equipment includes a six-metre high ocean multi-play structure with a coastal theme, a range of sensory and inclusive equipment and other new play equipment that promotes swinging, sliding, balancing, rocking, traversing, climbing, hanging, spinning and gliding. In addition, Safety surfacing of various types was used to surround the play equipment.
One of the most popular pieces of play equipment is the wooden play boat pirate ship which is always a favourite for the children and part of our imaginative play equipment range. The range includes play equipment that is accessible for children with sensory, physical or learning disabilities, including the wheelchair friendly carousel.
The partly covered steel slide is also proving a huge success along with the variety of wooden play equipment. The pay area is divided in to separate age-based play areas allowing progression throughout the different age zones, encouraging children to challenge themselves, providing self-learning opportunities to discover risk and build their self-confidence.
It is nice to see the traditional play equipment in use including a see saw, traditional swings and climbing frames and pole climbers.
This installation of play equipment in Devon was one of the biggest undertaken by us at Outdoor Play UK and we are very proud of the finished result and the benefit it will bring in years to come for the residents and visitors of South Devon.
